AHO BOARD of DIRECTORS
Zara Babitzke - Ms. Babitzke brings 17 years in social service in Marin County, 8 years as Marin County Children's System of Care Resource Development Director, Zara has worked with teams at Health and Human Services, Social Service, Community Mental Health, Juvenile Services and Education providing "out of the box" resources to prevent Marin's lowest income families and children from falling through the gaps of the system. Zara designed, implemented and managed the first transitional housing program for young adults ages 18 to 22 in Marin County for Sunny Hills, a residential placement facility. When that program was cut due to funding, AHO was founded. AHO was incorporated in January 2005 to meet the critical gap in services for young adults ages 18 to 25 who exit the system without a caring adult, resources and guidance. In private practice for the past 8 years, Zara has worked with families with young adults ages 18 to 25 with special needs transition from their parents home to independent living. As Executive Director of AHO, Zara also partners with 17 Alliance for Youth partners she has brought together on behalf of youth at risk in Marin. Zara participated on the Marin County Strategic Sub-Committee for Transitional Age Youth (TAY), College of Marin's TAY committee, Marin County TAY committee, County's Coordinating Committee. Zara is also a member of the Marin's Center for Volunteer and Nonprofit Leadership and Marin County's Visionary Team on the 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness. Ms. Babitzke received her BS Degree in Education Summa Cum Laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 1972, and her MA in Special Education Magna Cum Laude from San Francisco State University in 2000, and an Integrated Services-Community Collaboration Credential from SF State in 2001.
Evan Kraus - Mr. Kraus brings years of legal, investment and banking experience to the AHO Board. He served as an officer of Tamalpais Bank, a subsidiary of the publicly-traded Epic Bancorp, from 2004 to 2006. Mr. Kraus served as Vice President-National Accounts for American Century Services Corporation beginning in 2001 and as Vice President-Mutual Fund Alliances for Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. from 1998 until 2001.Mr. Kraus has advised and served as legal counsel to California corporations over a period of ten years. Mr. Kraus was Executive Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel of NetSource Communications, Inc., an international communications and internet services company from 1996 to 1997. He was Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel to IASCO, a diversified international aviation services company, from 1992 to 1996, and from 1990 to 1992, he served as corporate counsel to that company. Mr. Kraus also served as corporate counsel to CIS Corporation, a lease syndication company, from 1986 until 1989 and as an associate attorney with the law firm of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman from 1984 to 1986. Mr. Kraus received his Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University in 1980 and his J.D. law degree from Emory University School of Law in 1983.
Larry Goldfarb - Mr. Goldfarb brings his expertise of over twenty years of investment banking, trading and legal experience to LRG Capital Group. Recognized as one of the leading experts on making direct investments in both private and public companies, Mr. Goldfarb specializes in bridging the financial needs of growth companies by making direct investments and structuring transactions that enable them to grow and provide investor returns. Mr. Goldfarb received his legal degree cum laude, from Georgetown Law School where he was on the Law Journal and published numerous articles. In 1998 he formed BayStar Capital Management, LLC, a vehicle in which he could fund growth oriented, small capitalization, and publicly traded companies. Mr. Goldfarb regularly speaks at both national and international private equity and hedge fund conferences and events, has written numerous books and articles on various investment strategies, and is a guest lecturer at business schools, including Columbia and Berkeley. Stemming from his love of aiding underprivileged youth, the arts, and technology, Mr. Goldfarb continues to be a major contributor and board member of several charitable and non-profit foundations such as Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity (www.ahoproject.org) and the Blue Bear School of American Music (www.bluebearmusic.org). Stemming from his love of aiding underprivileged youth, the arts, and technology, Mr. Goldfarb continues to be a major contributor to The Lower Eastside Girls Club (www.girlsclub.org), FIRST (For Inspiration & Recognition of Science & Technology) (www.usfirst.org) and also owns the LRG Racing team (www.lrgracing.com) which competes in the American Federation of Motorcyclists (AFM) (www.afmracing.org) and other racing clubs. Mr. Goldfarb received his legal degree cum laude, from Georgetown Law School where he was on the Law Journal and published numerous articles.
Andrew Pontious - Mr. Pontious brings over 15 years of legal experience to the AHO Board. He is a Partner with the law firm of Collette Erickson Farmer & O'Neill LLP with offices in San Francisco and Larkspur, California. Mr. Pontious specializes in nearly all aspects of business law, including business formations, transactions, corporate governance, and strategic planning, securities issuances and regulatory compliance, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property protection for numerous public and private companies, many of which provide products and services within high technology markets. He also advises defendants and plaintiffs in state and federal courts in matters including intellectual property disputes and complex business litigation. Mr. Pontious worked as an aeronautical engineer for McDonnell Douglas Corporation before attending law school. Mr. Pontious received his Bachelor of Science from Purdue University in 1986 and his J.D. law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1991.
Karen Robbins - Ms. Robbins brings her experience as an organizational development and management consultant working in the non-profit sector since 1969. Throughout her 40+ year career she has worked in direct service social work, program management, executive director, consultancy and volunteer service roles with many human service agencies in the Bay Area. Her longest tenure was 20 years with the Jewish Community Centers, where she served for 7 years as the Executive Director of the JCC of San Francisco, an agency with over 200 employees and a budget of $7Million. Specializing in Executive and Organizational Transitions she was an affiliate consultant with CompassPoint Non-profit Services in San Francisco for 6 years. Currently she is focused on volunteer community service work in Marin County. As chair for 3 years of the Marin County Juvenile Justice and Delinquency prevention Commission, she spearheaded community organizing to launch the Marin County Youth Peer Court. Currently, she is a mediator with juvenile offenders in the Victim Offender Reconciliation Program (VORP) for the Marin County Probation Department, and works in a Truancy Mitigation program with Middle Schools in Novato. Over the years she has served on many Boards and committees, including a term as Board Chair of the Women's Foundation of San Francisco. Karen has a M.A. in Organizational Development and a B.S in Social Work from Simmons College. She is a resident of Mill Valley CA.
Devi Brown - Ms. Brown brings her 30 years expertise in the field of finance. She works with a variety of clients, computer systems and software and specializes in QuickBooks setup and training for small businesses. She offers full-charge bookkeeping services to businesses in Marin County with a specialty in not-for-profit accounting. Ms. Brown offers seminars and on-site training in the use of QuickBooks Accounting Software to individuals and groups. She assists organizations with budget planning, audit management and learning to read and understand their financial statements. Her client base consists of Not-for-Profit organizations, Independent Schools, Arts organizations, Social Service agencies, Medical Practices and Clinics and a variety of small to medium sized business and personal finances. Ms. Brown graduated from Boston University School of Fine Arts in 1968 with a degree in Music Theory and Composition. She has had her own accounting business since 1975 and is certified in Accounting, Data Processing and System Analysis and Design. She is a Certified Sleeter QuickBooks Consultant and a ProAdvisor for Intuit. Ms. Brown has served on many non-profit boards over the years and is currently completing her fourth year as Treasurer of the Marin Association of Female Executives (MAFE) as well as Treasurer of the Homestead Valley Community Association.
Margaret Elliott - Ms. Elliott brings her 25 years of directing four unique nonprofit organizations. Since 1993 she has been the Executive Director of the College of Marin Foundation in Kentfield, CA. growing their assets from $400,000 to multi million dollars annually. Three other nonprofits organizations have benefited from the expertise of Ms. Elliott including; Tariton Foundation in San Francisco, CA, Ocean Alliance Foundation also in San Francisco, and Elliott Educational Services, in San Rafael, CA which Ms. Elliott also founded. Ms Elliott is an alumnae of California State University with an MS in Guidance and Counseling and a BA in Education form Occidental
