Happy Wednesday!

It’s been a long and rough road since my post last week due to some challenges in my personal life. On the bright side, I got to see the famous red AHO cottage yesterday. A sweet and homey space nestled among the trees with a view of Mt. Tamalpais! It’s easy to see why the cottage is the home base for AHO and place of inspiration for its youth and all things AHO.

As for work for this week, much of it will revolve around putting the finishing touches on the
poster for AHO outreach events and adding the contact information for counselors at Marin’s
alternative high schools. I will also be reaching out to those schools to hopefully schedule
meetings in the early part of the school year. Updating contact information for schools is an
ongoing practice as each year there are many personnel changes. AHO wants to stay on top of
those changes so schools are aware of the resources AHO has for its struggling students.

The AHO poster I’ve been in the process of creating has been unexpectedly tricky. Trying to get all the important information onto one page without it being too wordy has been challenging
while I also want to make it look clean and inviting. Overall, this project has been a good
challenge for me, since I’m someone who tends to use more words than less.

I was also able to meet with one of AHO’s youth this past weekend at a cafe where we had some
breakfast and chatted about music, culture, and goals. He is working on getting signed up for
Medicare, CAL Fresh, and seeking a trauma therapist. In addition, he is working on getting
more hours at his place of long-term employment while continuing to work toward stable housing. It is a lot for anyone to take on, but his motivation and thoughtfulness leaves no doubt in my mind that with time, and AHO’s assistance, his goals will be met.

That’s it for now, until next time may your week be restful and uneventful.

Yours in ongoing persistence,
Kayla
