Hi my name is Janae. I found AHO through a friend of mine Julian who had been working with AHO for several years. Zara and her team have helped me so much over these past 4 months with finding housing, setting up job interviews and offering opportunities to share my story with high schools, rotary clubs and AHO Council of Investors. I recently had been homeless for 2 years with a 1 1/2 year old daughter staying hotels or wherever I could find to keep us safe. It was so hard and discouraging, but I never gave up, and made it happen day by day.
When I called Zara everything changed. My struggle was less and I now I have someone to talk to that really cares. Zara met me in a café and gave me information about the Brown House so I am now in stable housing, able to make hot meals for my daughter and me and can shower the right way. Life feels so much better now.
I really appreciate being part of AHO because it’s a community of youth who are changing their lives for the better. What makes AHO so special is they take the time to listen to your story and your problems and they work together with you like a partner to make things happen. There are just really good people at AHO – like somebody you can call family.
What I want my future to look like is now possible with AHO. I have hope and the support I need to go to school to become a medical assistant and provide for my family to be the best mother that I can be thanks to Zara and AHO.
